Call for Artists: Innisfil AI invites Artists to Bring Community Submissions to Life with Artistic Intelligence

August 1, 2024

The Innisfil ideaLAB & Library is launching our next creative initiative, Innisfil AIInnisfil AI (artistic intelligence) is a public art project that bridges creativity, technology, and local culture. We are looking for ten artists to transform prompts from the community that re-imagine life and landscapes in Innisfil into works of art.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping technological and creative landscapes, but why let AI have all the fun? Innisfil AI plays off the popularity and controversy of generative AI, replacing computers with real artists. Ten artists, chosen by a panel of jurors, will receive a list of prompts submitted by community members. Each artist will select their favourite prompt to bring to life. The completed works will be digitized and displayed in businesses along Innisfil Beach Road in December.

The call for artists opens on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 and will accept submissions until August 30, 2024, 5:00 p.m. For more information and how to apply, visit Innisfil AI.

Eligibility will focus on local artists from the municipality and wider Simcoe County area. Members of the BIPOC, 2SLGBTQQIA+, Indigenous, Senior, and Youth communities are encouraged to apply. Artists will receive an honorarium for their participation in Innisfil AI.

An artist information session will be held, virtually, on Wednesday, August 21, 20247:00 p.m. This is an optional meeting for artists to ask questions about Innisfil AIRegister online to attend.

Prompt submissions will be open from August 19 through September 15, 2024. Don’t miss the Innisfil AI feature at the 10th Annual MakerFEST, taking place at the Lakeshore Branch of the Library on Saturday, September 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What’s a prompt? A prompt is a piece of text or input given to an AI to generate a response or image. For Innisfil AI, community prompts will be brought to life by real artists, not computers. Want to see a sea monster take over Innisfil Beach? What about a Pokémon sunbathing at Friday Harbour? Through this collaborative art process, Innisfil AI celebrates our community and supports local artists and businesses.

A walking tour map will be available upon completion of the artworks. This temporary public art exhibition will create opportunities for exploration and meaningful conversations about technology and art.
